App Privacy Policy

Prayer should be private

Jesus said, "When you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you." (Matthew 6:6) That's why PrayerMate is committed to your privacy when you pray.

Anonymous data collection

PrayerMate does collect some anonymised usage data, including the number of items that you pray for and which feeds you are subscribed to. However, we don't ever track the content of what you pray (except when it is publicly available, as in the case of feeds). We collect these using a third-party service called Firebase, owned by Google.

We may make some aggregated statistics available to publishers of feeds about how people interact with their feed. However, PrayerMate does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.

Account data / Attached files

When you choose to "sign in" to PrayerMate, the app will store your data in the cloud using Google Firebase. This will include your name and email address. It also includes all of your list/card data, including any attachments such as subject photos or PDF files, etc. Firebase encrypts all of your data on their servers to prevent unathorised parties from accessing it. Further to this, your prayer data will be additionally encrypted to prevent PrayerMate staff reading the contents of your prayer points or the names of your lists.

If you belong to any "PrayerMate Share" groups, any and all data added to those lists will be shared with the other members of those groups. Your name and profile image will also be shared with the other group members.

Protection of certain personally-identifying information

PrayerMate discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to those of its employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on PrayerMate’s behalf or to provide services available through the PrayerMate app, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some of those employees, contractors and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your home country; by using the PrayerMate app, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. PrayerMate will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to its employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations, as described above, PrayerMate discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only when required to do so by law, or when PrayerMate believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of PrayerMate, third parties, or the public at large. If you are a registered user of the PrayerMate app and have supplied your email address, PrayerMate may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on with PrayerMate and our products. We primarily use our blog to communicate this type of information, so we expect to keep this type of email to a minimum. If you send us a request (for example via a support email or via one of our feedback mechanisms), we reserve the right to publish it in order to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users. PrayerMate takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information.

Address book data / Contacts

You can grant PrayerMate access to your address book contacts in order to quickly create prayer subjects. If you are signed in to the app, then the names of the contacts that you add will be uploaded along with all of your other list data, although we encrypt this data on-device rather than transmitting in plain text. The photo associated with that contact may also be uploaded so that it may be accessed on your other devices. We do not upload any other contact information such as email or postal addresses, and we will never use this data to contact people without your knowledge.

Camera access

You can grant PrayerMate access to your camera in order to allow you to scan QR codes to subscribe to feeds. We don't store any image data and nothing is transmitted to the cloud except the text interpretation of the QR code.

Legal grounds for processing personal information

We rely on one or more of the following processing conditions:

  • our legitimate interests in the effective delivery of information and services to you;
  • explicit consent that you have given;
  • legal obligations.

Access to data

You have the right to request a copy of the information we hold about you. If you would like a copy of some or all your personal information, please follow the instructions at the end of this section.

If you would like to request access to or make changes to your account data, please email info@prayermate.net.

Retention of personal information

We will retain your personal information on our systems only for as long as we need to. We keep contact information (such as mailing list information) until a user unsubscribes or requests that we delete that information from our live systems. If you choose to unsubscribe from a mailing list, we may keep certain limited information about you so that we may honor your request.

Discipleship Tech will not delete personal data from logs or records necessary to the operation, development, or archives of the PrayerMate project.

When deletion is requested or otherwise required, we will anonymise the data of data subjects and/or remove their information from publicly accessible sites if the deletion of data would break essential systems or damage the logs or records necessary to the operation, development, or archival records of the PrayerMate project.

If you would like to request deletion of your account and associated data, please email info@prayermate.net.

Rights in relation to your information

You may have certain rights under data protection law in relation to the personal information we hold about you. In particular, you may have a right to:

  • request a copy of personal information we hold about you;
  • ask that we update the personal information we hold about you, or independently correct such personal information that you think is incorrect or incomplete;
  • ask that we delete personal information that we hold about you from live systems, or restrict the way in which we use such personal information (for information on deletion from archives, see the “Retention of personal information” section);
  • object to our processing of your personal information; and/or
  • withdraw your consent to our processing of your personal information (to the extent such processing is based on consent and consent is the only permissible basis for processing).

If you would like to exercise these rights or understand if these rights apply to you, please email info@prayermate.net.
